When the Amazon Kindle was first introduced in late 2007, it retailed for $399, which is quite close to what a low-end iPad computer sells for now. The fact that a solid but rather featureless e-reader in 2007 would cost almost as much as an app-heavy tablet computer in 2010 is pretty remarkable.

Nevertheless, the original Kindle sold out within 6 hours of its debut. When the iPad was first introduced, Kindle prices dropped to $189, even though it was an upgraded model with more storage, a better battery and sharper screen. But looking at the Kindle's plunge in price over the last three years, it's possible to conclude that Amazon may end up giving it away for free by the end of this year. If you plot four Kindle price points on a graph and connect a trend-line, that is the picture it gives you.

Skype, one of the most popular internet over voice over IP provider is going to launch an application designed specifically for the apple Ipad 2. Video chat was not possible on the Ipad as it lacked a front camera. The Ipad 2 overcomes this hurdle since it has a front camera which is already being used for FaceTime.
Skype app for Ipad 2 is set to be launched around 28th June,2011 and it will be available for download on iTunes. Most people prefer Skype to FaceTime as the former allows video chat between a whole range of products whereas FaceTime is restricted to only Apple products.
This app for the Ipad 2 will be able to work over 3G or Wi-Fi networks and is set to improve the way people look at the Ipad as a communication device. The take-over of Skype by Microsoft for $8.5 billion also underlies the huge potential of Skype and its vast numbers that could act as a major plus point for the Ipad over the other tablets flooding the market.

It has been reported that Skype is all set to launch a video chat app that has been optimized for Apple's iPad. This move has come amidst Microsoft's bid to acquire this popular video chat product.

Many industry analysts believe that this might lead to bringing the two historical rivals getting ingratiated by putting Microsoft on the iPad. Some reports claim that the Skype app may be available on iTunes starting Tuesday.

It isn't all that surprising to see Apple's eagerness to allow Skype app for iPad to be available in iTunes. Skype commands huge popularity worldwide, with up to 30 million users simultaneously using this video chat tools during peak times and 145 million average monthly users in 2010.

Combining this popular app on the iPad can only help boost iPad's popularity further. Reviewers also claim that video chat on the iPad would surely be more catchy and convenient than on handheld smartphones.
